I’ve wanted to become a therapist ever since experiencing therapy for the first time during college. I loved being in a space in which it was okay to be honest, to be curious, to not know, to be in process. At the time, I was feeling overwhelmed at my mistakes and messes. I felt relief and hope that, through curiosity, humility, and courage, I could change and experience more peace. I wanted to pay it forward and give clients the same freedom and power to be curious, to consider, and to change, that I had been given.

That passion carried me as I transitioned to graduate school, as I began practicing, and through the pregnancy and birth of my child. My introduction to motherhood was life altering in many ways. It forever impacted the way that I could show up in my life, regulate my body, and build social community through physical activity.

Then and now, as I manage physical conditions from childbirth, I continue to wrestle with ideas of identity, agency, justice, meaning, and purpose. I feel passionate as an advocate for all of those with chronic health conditions, as our daily lives uniquely involve the complex dance of having to hold grief and joy, limitation and expansion, closely together.

My desire for therapy with my clients is to grieve the ways in which suffering has cost us and scarred us; while also refusing to let go of our agency and the choices we still have, even if they are the choices we never wanted.

I want you to have the biggest life that you can, within the reality of what life has given you. It is okay to miss how your life could have been under different circumstances. And I believe you can have a beautiful and glorious life.

Hi, I’m Lindsay.

on Counseling

Part of counseling is creating a space in which mistakes, misattunements, and not-knowing, do not have to cause a permanent relational divide within ourselves or with others. Instead, those mistakes can be used to learn, to create, to build intimacy, and to foster courage.

I love that counseling is a space for co-creation, a work of art, between two people, a therapist and a client:

a therapist authentic enough to wade into difficult conversations, and a client authentic enough to follow

a therapist humble enough to surface areas of difficulty for client, and a client humble enough to consider them

a therapist courageous enough to illuminate a client’s glory, and a client courageous enough to expand their glory, despite the darkness around us

In my practice, I strive to lead with authenticity, humility, and courage (and a touch of playfulness). It is important to me to always try to be tracking with you in whatever experience you bring to me. I will not always get it right, but I will always try to find you when I think I have missed you.

My goal is not to make you dependent on me, but to build your internal and external resources so that you can live a vibrant life outside of therapy and turn the “have to come” feeling into a “want to come” feeling. I believe therapy has been successful when you can and want to spend more time living your life outside of therapy, instead of feeling like you have to or want to spend it inside of our virtual walls.

Even with my experience, education, training, and certifications, I do not pretend to know everything about human behavior, about you, or your life. That would make me a god, and after all, we are all human. For better and for worse.
